COLUMBIA, S.C. - The South Carolina Emergency Management Division (SCEMD) hosted a statewide logistics workshop to strengthen coordination, resource management, and operational readiness among emergency response partners.

The workshop, held on Wednesday, brought together state, local, and private industry partners to review current logistics capabilities across the state, identify requirements, and improve processes supporting emergency operations.

Participants engaged in discussions on topics, including chainsaw support operations and capabilities, transportation resource coordination, and effective base camp operations.

A central component of the workshop was to identify support requirements and capabilities, encouraging participants to identify areas for improvement and explore ways to ensure continued engagement and value in the process. Discussions also included the use and potential expansion of regional staging areas, allowing jurisdictions to consider whether these resources meet their operational needs.

“This workshop is an opportunity to bring our partners together to strengthen coordination and ensure we are prepared to meet the logistical challenges of any disaster,” said SCEMD Chief of Operations Support Guy Gierhart. “By working collaboratively, we can refine our processes and enhance our ability to support communities across South Carolina.”

The SCEMD logistics workshop reflects the division’s continued commitment to building a more prepared state through collaboration, planning, and continuous improvement.
